Brief descriptions of our different GPS/GIS Training Seminars |
| LEVEL I GPS/GIS Training Seminars |
| Training Seminar for GPS/GIS Training (Two Day Course): | |||
| This course
is for people who use GPS/GIS for general mapping applications such as:
- Forestry - Agriculture - Natural Resources - Utilities Students gain a thorough understanding of GPS/GIS job management from start to finish in a "hands-on" environment. Basic GPS and GIS concepts are introduced. Intensive hands-on Field and office exercises teach the skills necessary to perform actual GPS/GIS mapping in real applications. The student will learn
essential GPS/GIS skills such as:
|
| Field | Office | |||
|
- Mission Planning - Job Design - Feature List Creation - Static/Dynamic Techniques for collecting Points, Lines and Areas |
- PC file transfer - Base station differential correction - Data Quality Control - Coordinate System Transformation - GIS mapping/exporting - Plot Output |
|||
| Level II Advanced Training Seminars |
| Training Seminar for Single & Dual Frequency GPS (Five Day Course): | |||
| This class
incorporates the Level I (2 day) course for Single Frequency and
then continues with a 3-day course in Dual Frequency GPS:
Dual-Frequency GPS/SURVEY Seminar (3-day seminar) This "hands-on" course is for surveyors and other high-precision GPS users who want want to learn how to use dual frequency GPS technology to achieve centimeter level results with short occupation times. Each student will use current dual frequency technology and software to learn design, collection, stakeout and survey mapping. The class teaches a complete field to office methodology, including: |
| Field | Office | |||
|
- Code/GIS feature list creation - Base Station and Rover Setup - Coordinate System/Local Plane (NEZ) setup - Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) - Fast Static collection |
- Field and Office Coordinate Geometry (COGO) functions for data adjustment/reduction - CAD/GIS Export - Plot Output |
|||
| PLGR and MC5 Mapper Training Seminars |
| Training Seminar for PLGR and MC5 Mapper GPS (Two Day Course): | |||
| Training for the PLGR+96 with the MC5 Mapper: | ||
|
This seminar focuses on mapping and using the PLGR+96 as a GPS/GIS mapping tool in conjunction with the MC5-MAPPER. We have conducted nationwide GPS/GIS mapping seminars for years and trained thousands of folks in the different methods of GPS/GIS mapping. Seminar clients include the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, USDA APHIS, most of the 50 state governments, Weyerhaeuser, International Paper,Champion International, Monsanto, Environmental Protection Agency, and many more. The key benefit of our seminars is that they are "hands-on". Everyone gets to touch and use the equipment. You will be provided with data collectors to use, as well as PC mapping software and notebook computers spread out through the classroom. However, for the PLGRs (because they are a controlled item), you will need to either bring your own or share with someone in the class. Make sure you bring your PLGR-PC cable.
The Level I course counts as continuing education credits for the Society
of American Foresters (SAF) and
The 1.5 day seminar is a
mix of lecture, PC work and two field sessions where the class will go
outside and map local features. The goal for the seminar is for the student
to be familiar and proficient in the following tasks:
|
||
| - Mission planning (satellite
availability) and job setup.
- Create a feature list (data dictionary) in the PC mapping program and download it to the hand-held. - Map points, lines and areas. - Map some features using the offset function. - Map some nested point features (i.e. points of interest along a line such as a culvert along a road. - Map points by averaging. - Upload completed job back into the PC mapping program. - Review and edit the map you created. - Print a scaled map. - Export in ArcView, Arc/INFO, DXF and ASCII formats. |

| ON-SITE TRAINING |
| GPS/GIS Seminars will present two-day Level I training: | |
|
| We
can provide training at your site and in conjunction with meetings or trade
shows. We have trained many society members in GPS/GIS, including:
American Fisheries Society (Minnesota State Chapter), North American Lake
Management Society, Society of Wetland Scientists (Northwest Chapter),
The Nature Conservancy (Mid West Regional Meeting).
On-site sessions, at a class size of 10-15 students, are very cost effective. We charge a flat fee which includes the instructor, training materials, and GPS/GIS data collectors for hands-on instruction. Typically our customer provides the classroom and basic classroom materials. If you are interested, please
e-mail support@gps-mapping.com. Tell us the location, number of students,
type of class desired (Level 1 or GPS/GIS/Topo) and any custom needs you
may have.
